# connect-transformations

Transform

Self managed

Confluent built

A collection of SMTs (single message transforms) for use with Kafka Connect. Includes the following:

**ExtractTopic**: Extract data from a message or its headers, and use it as the topic name. Can either use the entire key/value (which should be a string), or use a field from a map or struct. Use the concrete transformation type designed for the record key (`io.confluent.connect.transforms.ExtractTopic$Key`) or value (` io.confluent.connect.transforms.ExtractTopic$Value`) or header (` io.confluent.connect.transforms.ExtractTopic$Header`).

**Drop**: Drop either the key or value from a message, setting it to null. Use the concrete transformation type designed for the record key (`io.confluent.connect.transforms.Drop$Key`) or value (`io.confluent.connect.transforms.Drop$Value`).

**TombstoneHandler**: Manage tombstone records. A tombstone record is defined as a record with the entire value field being null, whether or not it has a value schema. Can be configured to either allow tombstone records to pass through but with a log message, or to drop tombstone records completely.

**MessageTimestampRouter**: Update the record's topic field as a function of the original topic value and the record's timestamp field. This is useful for sink connectors, because the topic field often determines the equivalent entity name in the destination system (for example, a database table or search index name). This SMT extracts the timestamp from the message's specified field, which is especially useful for log data in which the timestamp is stored as a field in the message.

**Filter**: Include or drop records that match a JSONpath-based predicate. Use the concrete transformation type designed for the record key (`io.confluent.connect.transforms.Filter$Key`) or value (`io.confluent.connect.transforms.Filter$Value`).
